Position Available

The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) seeks a talented and experienced anti-hunger, nutrition, and anti-poverty advocate to fill the position of Senior Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Policy Analyst working to strengthen SNAP access and benefit adequacy. This position works closely with the SNAP Director and, while the role is primarily remote, significant priority will be given to candidates based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including nearby Northern Virginia and Maryland suburbs.

The successful candidate will seek ways to improve the SNAPs reach and support for low-income households, including people and families working their way up the economic ladder. The ultimate goal is to ensure that SNAP can bolster food security, health and well-being, serve customers with dignity, and make positive impacts for a robust and equitable economy. This position offers opportunities to work in coalition with FRACs national, state, and local partners and to expand their experience as a program analyst, strategist, coalition builder and project manager.

Organizational Background

FRAC works to improve the nutrition, health, and well-being of people struggling against poverty-related hunger in the United States through advocacy, partnerships, and by advancing bold and equitable policy solutions. To attain this mission, FRAC engages in research, policy analysis and advocacy, coalition-building, outreach, technical assistance and training, and an array of communications strategies. In partnership with hundreds of national, state, and local nonprofit organizations, public agencies, corporations, and labor organizations, FRAC addresses hunger and food insecurity, and poverty as their root cause.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate information, technical assistance,analysis,training, strategic advice,and other hands-on support to national, state and community-based organizations,state andlocal government agencies, private nonprofitorganizations,and activists regarding ways tostrengthen SNAPs access, benefit adequacy, reach, and quality customer service.
  • Evaluate the effects of existing or proposed legislation, regulations,policiesand practicestodetermine waysand provide guidanceto defend, improve and expandSNAPs positive impacts.
  • Make recommendations for policy changes to streamline, improve accessibility, and increase SNAP compliance.
  • Write and/or assist with persuasive analytic and research materials, guides, outreach materials, and reports for use by advocates, government agencies, policy makers, service providers, and the media.
  • Analyze national,state,and local SNAPparticipationdata and other program indicators.
  • Make presentations to diverse audiences atlocal,state, regional and national conferences and meetings onSNAP access, benefit adequacy, and quality customer service.
  • Provide expertise and support to other program areas and departments assignedby the SNAP Director.
  • Represent FRAC at coalition and partner meetings.
  • Assist in managingregrants tonational, state, and localnonprofits and provide technical assistance on the regrantees.
  • Other performance tasks as assigned.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following characteristics:

  • Minimum3 - 5years of experience in advocacy,program operations,policy analysisand/or organizing.
  • An advanced degree in law, public policypreferred. Comparable fieldor comparable experienceaccepted.
  • Experience in nonprofit, government or policy work is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to evaluate policies, processes, or programs to identify issuesandrecommend solutions.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions with stakeholders to build consensus.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting datais stronglypreferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically.
  • Knowledge ofSNAPis required.
  • Capacity to tap input and engagement from people with lived experience with hunger and poverty strongly preferred.
  • Experience with public benefits and outreach also preferred.
  • Exceptional writtenandverbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonaland organizationalskills.
  • Unquestioned integrity, a high level of energy, and a sense of humor.
  • A commitment tosocial justice.

Salary/Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $88,800, plus a generous benefits package that includes health, retirement, and additional offerings. FRACs normal office hours are between 9:00 am and 5:30 pm Eastern Time. This position is part of a union and is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
