Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) is seeking volunteers to join the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP). Volunteers are college students serving to gain experience in an inpatient setting, with no academic credits provided. HELP volunteers must be college students, age 18 or older, actively enrolled in an academic pre-med or clinical studies program. Volunteers participate in direct patient interaction and receive training that enables appropriate, low-risk service. Volunteer service is supervised by a clinical team including physicians, advanced practitioners, and nurse leaders. Participation in the HELP Program requires a minimum of 4 hours a week for a minimum of 100 total hours of service for at least two semesters. Orientations for this program are offered 3x a year in September, Dec/Jan, and May for Fall, Spring & Summer semesters. All onboarding requirements must be completed at least 4 weeks prior to orientation date.
Volunteers represent Geisinger and assist in serving our patients, guests/families, and community; each individual will fulfill a specific role(s) based upon assignment. The support provided by this role will enhance the patient experience and support the work of Geisinger employees.
