POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Think Tank is a woman-owned small business with more than 27 years of proven success delivering exceptional IT and marine services to the federal government. We are currently seeking an ideal candidate for the position of Field Researcher to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Résumé of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.

The Field Researcher supports data collection and field operations for marine species studies, including aerial, shipboard, and small boat surveys. This role contributes to ecological assessments, tagging, biological sampling, and operational logistics in varied marine environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in shipboard, aerial, and alternative platform surveys to visually identify, photograph, and record marine species.
  • Collect, process, and archive biological and environmental data.
  • Deploy and maintain acoustic, tagging, and sampling equipment.
  • Assist with animal handling, necropsy, and tagging in accordance with protocols.
  • Operate and maintain NOAA small boats, including trailering and minor repairs.
  • Prepare field gear and coordinate logistics for survey missions.
  • Contribute to cruise reports, data logs, and scientific documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and operational protocols.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data collection tools preferred.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors for up to 12 hours/day, including extended time at sea or in remote areas.
