Influences and drives projects using broad, up-to-date knowledge of a scientific/technical/development discipline or area of specialization, with developing people leadership skills or deep expertise in one or more scientific/technical areas.

Uses broad understanding of the project and leads own team through collaboration, curiosity and connects team to matrix and project networks. Enables matrix collaboration on project/technology solutions to achieve creative results for impact on Division goals.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Key contributor or leader of projects/workstreams within scientific/technical/early development initiatives.
• Will lead several direct reports and influences through matrix and project networks.
• Identifies scientific/technical trends within own discipline that impact projects.
• Connects and enables work of direct reports and/or relevant collaborators within functional community.
• Actively mentors, trains, and supports career development for own directs and/or matrix direct reports and junior collaborators, especially in own area of deep expertise.
• Develops and recommends objectives for lab unit, together with broader team.
• Gives and accepts constructive feedback, especially to support performance and development of direct reports; speaks up and challenges the norm and guides team to share their work and ideas and/or influences a constructive culture within functional community.
• Empowered to carry out novel research and/or technical activities within team, and/or matrix community surrounding field of expertise, which may involve devising new techniques to advance drug discovery, technology or early development projects.
• May lead or co lead projects; influences and achieves results through own scientific and technical strengths and enables innovative contributions of direct reports and/or matrix team within key projects/initiatives/technology areas.
• Influences and inspires own team and /or brings matrix collaborators together across the organization with eye for progressing teams towards decision points and deepening scientific understanding.

Essential Requirements

• BS in Animal Science, Biology, Genetics or related field
• 8-10 years in industry/academia
• More than 4 years of leadership/management of direct reports
• Project Management experience
• General scientific experience with understanding of In Vivo protocols
• Animal handling experience
• Availability for weekend, holiday, and inclement weather coverage required.

Desirable Requirements:

• Experience in embryology/IVF and/or general breeding
• Experience with digital caging, imaging, detailed/specialized necropsy

The salary for this position is expected to range between $114,100 and $211,900 per year.
