JOB SUMMARY

The Driver Helper performs routine manual work in assisting truck drivers in loading and unloading of goods from one location to the other including retail stores, warehouse, donation sites and businesses. When not in route, the Driver Helper performs a variety of operational functions including warehouse and dock work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route
• Assists in checking and verifying bills and comply with department guidelines
• Provides assistance to driver in reading maps, using radio or phones to connect with dispatcher and assist the driver to back-up trucks or trailers into the doc
• Manually loads and unloads trucks
• Helps to ensure cleanliness of truck
• Assists the driver in customer service issues
• Provides assistance to the driver and serve as a “spotter” to guide the truck to the loading dock when needed
• Operates material handling equipment as needed
• Complies with proper loading and unloading procedure
• Checks and verifies receipts of goods
• Participate in mandatory testing for drugs and/or alcohol on a random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up basis.
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1 year of related experience
• Ability to understand the turning and backing capabilities of the truck and driver, and be able to communicate directions with understandable hand signals
• Respects and has knowledge of cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientations and age groups other than one’s own, able to work effectively with all.
• Ability to read maps and directions
• Must be able to lift 35 to 50 lbs consistently
